Business Development Manager, Creative and Digital Works
Johanna Hoyos, MSc, is Business Development Manager at NYU Technology Opportunities & Ventures, where she leads the commercialization of digital and creative innovations, accelerating the translation of academic discoveries into societal and commercial impact.
She brings 18 years of leadership experience across biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, startups, and technology commercialization, with expertise in business development, licensing, strategic partnerships, sponsored research, due diligence. and technology transfer. Prior to NYU, Johanna held roles of increasing responsibility at Wyeth, Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Syneos Health, Takeda, and Sarepta Therapeutics, where she contributed to the development and commercialization of novel, best-in-class products across oncology, rare and ultra-rare genetic diseases (including central nervous system, musculoskeletal, and kidney disorders), inflammatory disorders, and infectious diseases (including bacterial and viral conditions), leveraging gene therapies, RNA-targeted therapeutics, precision medicines, vaccines, and diagnostics, while building strategic collaborations across the life sciences ecosystem. She also served as a strategic advisor to life science startups and university spin-outs, guiding commercialization strategy, regulatory planning, partnership development, and investor readiness.
She holds a B.S. in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Forensic Science, and an M.S. in Molecular Biology, Microbiology & Immunology with a concentration in Business Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She also holds certifications from Rutgers University in Lean Six Sigma, clinical trial management, paralegal, Harvard corporate finance, and USPTO copyright and trademark fundamentals. A published author in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, Journal of Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome, and Biology, Medicine PLoS ONE, Certified Paralegal, and Patent Bar candidate. Johanna is passionate about bridging academia, industry, and investment to transform scientific discoveries into public impact, with a focus on maximizing societal benefit while serving the public good.
