NYU Langone Health recently hosted AstraZeneca for an oncology-focused industry day designed to deepen collaboration across clinical research, translational science, and therapeutic development. Organized by Technology Opportunities and Ventures (TOV) in partnership with the Perlmutter Cancer Center’s Clinical Trials Office, the event brought together AstraZeneca representatives and NYU Langone faculty, clinicians, and research leaders for a day of strategic discussion and scientific exchange.

The visit reflects a broader institutional effort to strengthen relationships with industry and create more integrated partnerships that span both research and clinical care. Rather than focusing on one-off projects, the goal is to develop long-term collaborations that can accelerate innovation and bring promising therapies to patients more quickly.

The day began with a joint session in which both organizations shared their priorities and areas of expertise. AstraZeneca was requested to present its oncology pipeline and highlight areas where collaboration could support ongoing and future clinical development. NYU Langone leaders, in turn, showcased the institution’s strengths in clinical trial execution, rapid patient enrollment, and access to a large and diverse patient population across its health system.

Following the opening session, participants broke into smaller discussions focused on five areas within oncology: lung cancer, gastrointestinal cancers, breast cancer, hematology, and cell therapy. These breakout sessions brought together subject matter experts from both organizations to explore scientific overlap, discuss clinical trial opportunities, and identify areas where NYU Langone investigators’ translational and preclinical research could align with AstraZeneca’s development priorities.

For Dr. Kevin Sampson, Director of Corporate Engagement within TOV, the event represents the kind of coordinated industry engagement NYU Langone is working to expand.

“These kinds of collaborative events lay the groundwork for broader, more strategic partnerships that align our strengths in clinical care, translational science, and research innovation,” said Sampson. “More importantly, they help advance promising projects into the clinic more efficiently. By shortening the path from discovery to patient care, these collaborations have the potential to improve human health in a meaningful way.”

The AstraZeneca industry day builds on momentum from earlier outreach efforts and is part of a growing series of company-specific engagement events. NYU Langone is planning similar programs with additional pharmaceutical partners in the months ahead, with the aim of fostering broader alliances across multiple disease areas and research domains.

As NYU Langone continues to expand its corporate engagement efforts, events like this one highlight the value of bringing industry and academia together in a structured, collaborative setting, creating new opportunities to advance research, support faculty, and ultimately improve patient care.
